Rosi's Little Bavarian Restaurant

Rosi’s Little Bavarian Restaurant brings a taste of Europe to Glenwood Springs. Situated right down the street from the Glenwood Hot Springs and right across the bridge from downtown, its location is ideal for those who have a hankering for hearty traditional dishes for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Its current owner, John Pataky, moved to America from Europe just after he was born. He bought the restaurant about 20 years ago, but Rosi’s has been an institution in Glenwood Springs since the 1980s.

It has received nine local’s choice awards for best breakfast, best breakfast special, and best desserts. The Vienna crepes take you right to Austria. With a view of the mountains outside your window at Rosi’s, you can’t help but think about Vienna’s cathedrals and palaces. Three crepes are stuffed with a creamy and sweet filling, topped with fresh seasonal fruit, dusted with powdered sugar, and finished off with whipped cream. If you want something more savory for breakfast, try one of the benedicts. The bacon benedict comes with crispy bacon, avocado, and two poached eggs on a grilled English muffin smothered with rich and creamy hollandaise.

The prosciutto and asparagus benedict comes with thin slices of smoky imported black forest ham with spears of fresh asparagus and two poached eggs on a grilled English muffin, also covered with hollandaise. Other benedict styles include the classic benedict and the veggie benedict. All benedicts are served with shredded hash browns.

The Jaegerschnitzel is another savory option that can be enjoyed later in the day for lunch. It is a thin slice of pork tenderloin that is breaded and fried to a golden, crispy perfection and served with traditional spaetzle, and topped with a creamy and saucy mushroom gravy. Weinerscnitzel is also another choice if you do not fancy the mushroom gravy. And if you are not in the mood for Bavarian cuisine, there are also other worldly offerings, like the breakfast burrito.

The rolled flour tortilla is stuffed with a hash of eggs, potatoes, green bell peppers, onions, and your choice of meat, which includes bacon, ham, sausage, and chorizo. It is then smothered with a savory green chilli, along with beans, and served with shredded cheese. Rosi’s also serves huevos rancheros and chilaquiles. To top off all these dishes, bottomless fresh coffee is a welcome treat during any time of the day, whether a morning wake up or a mid-day pick me up.

You can also end your meal with one of Rosi’s famous housemade Bavarian pastries, or you can decide to take one to go. Pastries include eclairs, Napoleans, strudels, danishes, and sticky buns. You can’t miss this chalet-style restaurant. It is attached to a local hotel, also owned by a family that hails from Europe, and is adorned with traditional Bavarian decor on both the outside and inside, making for a homey feel right when you walk through the doors.
